Pirate Theme Party

In this edition of the pirate theme party blog, I will continue the adventures of the Parrot Pirate gang. In the last edition, Guy had begun digging through the magic treasure chest only to discover a sheep skin parchment at the bottom. For updates, check the pirate theme party blog.

Guy had found the source of the light. It was a map, and it glowed and shimmered with an eerie green tint. The light seemed to swirl around the map, and although it was dark in the cave, the glowing light allowed Guy to read it. “What in the world is this?” Guy said. In the background he heard Petey whisper something. “What did you say bird?” Guy asked. “That there’s the Full Moon Map.” “I thought it was just a legend, but there you have it ….. right in your hands.” Guy said “Full Moon Map?” “Do you mean the map that’s supposed to reveal the location of all the buried treasure in the world?” “Nonsense!” “It’s true!” Petey proclaimed. “How else can you describe it?” Guy stood mesmerized by the map. Could it be true? Guy looked closely at the map legend. This was the most amazing thing he’d ever seen.

In today’s pirate theme party blog, I’ll continue the story of Guy and Petey’s descent into the cave. The chest was open and Guy was busy digging through its contents. As he kept digging out the gold coins, he noticed that the chest grew brighter and brighter. All the coins had been removed and now he was digging through priceless gems. Diamonds, emeralds, rubies, pearls, and sapphires were all in the chest in great numbers. He took out a sack and started filling it with the gems. He didn’t want to lose any of the stones in the sand below. The chest seemed to be growing larger as he emptied it. The amount of coins and jewels that were out of the chest were much more than the chest could actually contain. How could this be? Who has ever heard of such a thing? Guy was confused, but that really didn’t matter to him now. He was rich beyond his wildest dreams and had more than enough treasure to share with the entire crew. Finally, his hand started to reach the bottom where his fingers felt the rough outline of lamb skin.

“NO!” Guy thought. What his eyes were seeing couldn’t be real. How much had he had to drink that night? Just before him was he chest that he had just closed and locked, but to his amazement, he watched as he saw the keyhole turn and the latch release. “CRACK!” That was it! That was the sound he had heard earlier. The top swung open as if an invisible hand had wanted to reveal its contents. The chest, now open, appeared to be glowing, and Guy was pretty certain it wasn’t because of the reflection from the torch. “What could this be?” Guy wondered. On top of the chest were a bunch of Spanish deplumes that looked as if they were brand new. There was more money here than he had seen in his entire life, yet there was something underneath. He started to dig out the heavy coins and place them in front of him. He was determined to see the source of this light.

“CRACK” …. both Petey and Guy heard it, and both stood transfixed in fear. “Who was in there with them?” Guy thought. He was just about ready to back out of the cave when his curiosity got the better of him. Perhaps one of the other pirates had found the treasure. He slowly crept forward, anxious to avoid waking the bats that lined the cave like a blanket. Nothing! There was nobody here and only the treasure chest lay before him. The chest was opened as well, and Guy was certain that he had closed it before he left from his first visit. This was strange. He reached down and closed it again, making sure to secure the latch. The key was in his pocket, and just as he was about to turn around, he saw something that couldn’t be true. “NO!” he thought, “This can’t be real!” In the background all he could hear was Petey squawk “Uh oh.”

Petey was approaching the cave with Guy and Guy seemed to be in a bit of a trance. Perhaps he was still feeling the effects of all that run and pork. They reached the entrance of the cave only to see that it was lit from inside. Someone had placed a torch at the end of the cave but had left the treasure untouched. Petey’s first thought was that someone else had discovered the treasure, but then he thought better about it. This was the work of Guinevere, the voodoo priestess of the island. She wanted, of all people, Guy to discover the chests contents. This puzzled Petey, but he was more concerned with getting released from the hex that Guinevere had placed on him. In spite of the light, bats eerily lined the walls of the cave. Petey did not want to wake them so he kept a low profile. At just that moment, Petey heard a loud “CRACK” at the end of the cave …..

In the last pirate theme party blog, Petey was finally able to get Guy away from the rest of the Parrot Pirates. This was finally the chance he was looking for. Arrrgghhh! Finally, he had gotten Guy’s attention. They set out across the island and back toward the cave where Guy had first discovered the treasure. Petey had to get Guy to open the chest and look closely at what it revealed. Even Petey had some doubts about the authenticity of the voodoo priestess’s claims. There was plenty of gold and gems to go around, but the most important item, the most valuable of all, was the mysterious full moon map. He had heard of this before, but only thought it was some kind of pirate legend. Apparently, the map revealed the location of all the sunken treasure in the world, but would only reveal their locations if it was viewed under a perfectly full moon. Well, he would find out soon enough because the cave was approaching rapidly.

In the last pirate theme party blog, Petey was trying to figure a way out of the hex placed on him by that cunning voodoo priestess Guinevere. He had to find a way to get Guy to believe his story about the treasure of Black Beard Island. Check back at the pirate theme party blog for updates.

As Petey was thinking back on his short time with the voodoo priestess Guinevere, the rest of the crew of the Parrot Pirates was falling asleep. Petey snapped out of his trance. This was going to be his best opportunity if he were ever to get Guy to believe his story about the treasure. Guy was snoring away. His sleep a product of barbequed pork and cheap rum. Petey squawked “Guy!” “Guy!” But Guy didn’t budge. Finally Petey reached down to Guy’s ear, and with all his might, he took a bite right out of the corner of the pirates ear. Hey! Guy screamed. “Quiet now, “ Petey said. “You have to come with me right now.” “What?” Guy asked. Petey said “Look, we’ve got to get back to the treasure ….. the treasure!” Guy reluctantly got up as Petey breathed a sigh of relief.

Guinevere, Guinevere! He couldn’t remember her name before, but now he couldn’t get her name out of his head. He was stuck in this situation because of the deal he had struck with her. He had to make sure that Guy found the treasure and that he understood exactly what it meant. Guy had in fact found the treasure, but he was so dull, Petey was uncertain that he’d be able to convince him about the story of the treasure. Until then, he was stuck with him. The witches hex allowed him only to fly short distances without having to land. He felt like a chicken. Because he wasn’t able to fly, he put on extra weight which made his predicament even worse. He had better get Guy to believe his story soon, or he would never be able to fly again. The question was how. These pirates were pretty dense and Guy was the king of the morons. Petey would have to be clever if he were going to succeed.

Petey had been thinking about that voodoo witch quite a bit and he was regretting the deal he had struck with her. He remembered back on that day only a few weeks ago. He was in a cage after having been captured by her. Her hut was dark and it smelled rancid. What was her name? He had such a hard time remembering it. Come to think of it, he had a hard time remembering her face. The potions and brews she was cooking up had a strange effect on him, and his memory of those events was kind of cloudy. Guinevere! That was her name. She was not a normal voodoo priestess. She was not originally from the islands, but from some place called Ireland. Her skin was fair and she was a beautiful woman, but that beauty was only skin deep. Underneath that sweet smile was a heart of stone. Petey was sure of it.

Yikes, Petey thought. “I’m stuck with these idiots now!” He sighed. “They’ve even named themselves after me …. what am I to do?” Petey had never really been around pirates that much. Sure, he’d heard of them, and even seen a few back on the island of Haiti, but this was different. Now he was sitting in their midst and it looked like there was no way to escape. He wasn’t looking forward to spending time with these fellas and didn’t like the prospect of spending his life at sea fending of other pirates, not to mention the East India Trading Company! He really needed to get Guy’s attention and explain to him the secrets of the treasure he found. Perhaps then he could find an avenue of escape. Until then, he would remain under the hex from the witch.
