Captain Wellington had lost track of time as he starred at his beautiful ship, the Rita. He came to attention quickly when he heard the ruckus coming from some of the men. “What you got there Guy?” “How’d ya get that bird to sit on your shoulder?” “Stand back … stand back!” Guy snorted. “This here’s my friend Petey. He’s my pet & you ain’t allowed to eat em. I know you is hungry, but Petey is off limits! You got that?” A voice boomed over by the ship, “not if I have anything to say about it” Wellington belched. “We ain’t had nothing to eat in 3 days, so anything is on the menu.” Petey squawked, & Guy told him not to worry. “No skipper, I have a particularly good reason why we shouldn’t eat the bird ….. you see ….. Petey here can talk.” The group fell silent & all looked amazingly at the parrot.
